Is A USB Wireless Network Adapter The Right Device For Wireless Networking?

Broadband technology has changed the way the public views communicating through the internet.  With this technology, everything has become faster.  More people are becoming aware of the advantages of this technology that they are investing in devices which support this technology for their home networks as well as for their mobile computers.

Broadband technology can be shared between computers through two types of network – the wired network and the wireless network. The only difference between the two types of networks is the way they share the broadband access to the computers in the network. Obviously, the wired network shares the access through wires while the wireless network shares it through signal frequencies.

Currently, wireless network is getting majority of the attention because of the ease and mobility it presents the users, not mentioning the fact that wires are non-existent with this network. To achieve a wireless network, various devices are being used and one such device is the USB wireless network adapter.

A USB wireless network adapter allows computer users to connect wirelessly to the network.  The USB wireless network adapter acts like a gate which will allow the user to catch the signals being transmitted by the Wi-Fi provider.  However, a USB wireless network adapter is not the only way that a user can connect to the network because PCI network adapters are also capable doing so.

As with many devices, the use of a USB wireless network adapter has its advantages and disadvantages. Since most PCs have USB Ports called USB1.1, a USB wireless network adapter is recommended to use because it matches the speed of this hardware.  A USB wireless network adapter is also very universal and can be used with any type of computer.  Another advantage of a USB wireless network adapter is that it can easily be transferred between computers which need Wi-Fi access. This advantage can be appreciated especially when the need for Wi-Fi access is dependent on the user.

A disadvantage of a USB wireless network adapter concerns safety reasons. Because of its mobility, it is very easy to steal a USB wireless network adapter.  There are also times that a certain USB wireless network adapter will not be compatible with the USB port of the computer, especially with the introduction of USB 2.0.  A USB wireless network adapter also has a higher CPU usage versus the traditional PCI cards.

Since wireless technology is very popular nowadays, it is best to invest in a good device for an effortless and smooth connection to the Wi-Fi network.
